You must have spotted it already: since January 2025 there is a big one Dirk in Stadshart Zoetermeer. Here you can go every day for all your groceries. Are you curious about how things are going behind the scenes of your regular supermarket? Supermarket manager Jos lights up a tip of the veil.
“I have been working as a supermarket manager for the Dirk”, Jos says. At that time he has already set up and opened several branches for the company.” Last year I worked at the Dirk on Kanaleneiland. In November 2024 I started a new challenge: compiling a team for a new location in Zoetermeer. ”
Everyone gets a chance
Starting a new supermarket, how do you do that? “I immediately started looking together for a team. We have a diverse club, the youngest is fourteen and the oldest sixty -four years old. I like to be able to give everyone who wants to work at Dirk a chance.”
When the store opened in January, Jos was ready with a team of one hundred people. “That turned out to be too little. We already have many customers from day one, so I was allowed to hire more people. Now we have a very big and pleasant team.”

Every day is different
“I think the best thing about this work is different every day,” says Jos. “I really like working with people. Together with my team I work towards the same goal: to satisfy customers.”
“The atmosphere in the store is very good, we work together well. That is key To run a store well. The Stadshart is also a nice workplace, there are many nice customers who come shopping after a day of shopping. There is an elderly center opposite our store, from there people sometimes come by for a message or just a chat. ”
Enthusiastic customers
Jos regularly hears enthusiastic responses from customers at the supermarket. He understands exactly what the supermarket makes such a pleasant place: “We have a large store with wide aisles. People can do their shopping at their leisure.”
“In addition, we have a surprising assortment, with new Conspirators every week. We also have a large bakery department, where we bake all our delicacies ourselves. I am a very fan of the filled cakes.”
At the Dirk you can easily pay on the spacious self -scan square or at one of the manned cash registers. “More and more people find out that we also have a parking garage under the store, where you park for free in the first hour. For a lot of Zoetermeerers our parking garage is still a hidden gem, but we have room for seventy cars.”

Proud of the Dirk
“I am most proud of my team,” says Jos. “We have trained all the employees in a short time to be able to do the work well. Since we have started, little has changed within the team, people continue to work here for a long time. We also encourage our team members to grow and offer internal training for this.”
