VfL Wolfsburg adds Werder Bremen first defeat

Coach Stephan Lerch made a change after the 2-1 at 1. FC Köln, instead of Lineth Beerensteyn, Justine Kielland began. The battered Alexandra Popp was able to run. On the other hand, Werder trainer Friederike Krompf saw no reason for changes compared to the 2-1 win over TSG Hoffenheim, they sent the same eleven players on the lawn.

Bremen starts bravely, but does not reward itself

The Bremeners did not hide at the beginning and were the game -determining team in the early minutes, without developing specific goal. In the middle of the first half, the “wolf” took over the command in the field and came to opportunities. In the 20th minute, Popp missed the lead for the Lower Saxony with a header, a minute later Cora Zicai fled the ball just past the Werder housing.

Peddemors lets VfL cheer

In the 30th minute, the fans of the Wolfsburg women were finally able to cheer. Janou Levels staged Ella Pedemors, who scored the 1-0 for VfL with her first goal of the season. The gate had announced itself because the alleys were only busy with defensive tasks and could hardly provide relief. Svenja Huth could have increased to 2-0 for the hosts in the 34th minute.

After the break, the second goal for the VfL fell, it was a goal from the category strange. Levels benefited from a playback error in the Bremen defensive, penetrated the penalty area and pulled off. Chiara d’Angelo threw himself in between, but falsified the ball unsustainably for Mariella El Sherif in the Bremer Gate into his own network (52.).

Wild final phase

The game seemed to be decided early on, the losses’ loss of strength became clearer and Wolfsburg had everything under control – actually. Because if the Wolfsburg -based season has shown one, then that their achievements are subject to fluctuations. So also in this game. In the 82nd minute, Larissa Mühlhaus provided a 1-2 connection for the grasses with a transformed penalty.

But the footballers from the Mittelland Canal wobbled briefly. Two minutes later, Huth calmed down the nerves of the Lower Saxony with the goal to 3-1. In the 89th minute Popp increased to 4: 1, it was her 150th Bundesliga goal. Bremen Emöke Papai scored the last goal of the evening and thus the fourth within almost ten minutes (90.+3).

With ten points from four games, VfL is tied with the leader Bayern Munich in the table, which, however, has the better goal difference. The Bremen women still have seven points in the account after the first bankruptcy and show fourth place. Both teams will continue in the cup this coming weekend. In the first round, the Wolfsburg women guest at the ATS Buntentor, while the Werder people have to travel to SC Victoria Hamburg.
