Sinsheim (dpa) – National player Kai Havertz and his teammates at Chelsea hardly weighed on the confusion surrounding Roman Abramowitsch.
“Not much has changed for us players,” said the 22-year-old in a ZDF interview, adding: “There are people in the world who are doing much, much worse than us players.” Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger also play with Havertz for the club, which is coached by Thomas Tuchel.
The London club are banned from making player transfers due to sanctions against Russian club owner Abramovich and have been banned from selling tickets in the meantime. The British government had imposed the strict measures against the owner because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
“The most important thing is that this terrible war finally stops. Chelsea stands for peace. That should be clear to everyone,” Havertz said in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”. The situation is “still confusing and constantly changing. And to be honest: In the end it doesn’t matter whether we have to take the bus for four hours or fly for just one hour.”
There are “much more important things to think about than our travel expenses,” said the offensive player. “Namely how we can restore peace in Ukraine and help the people there. If necessary, as Thomas Tuchel already said, we’ll just ride our bikes.”
