Since the World Cup in Tokyo, Sandrina Sprengel has been one of the best heptathers in the world. In everyday life she combines many hours of training with her dream job: policewoman.

It is the greatest success in her career: Sandrina Sprengel grew beyond himself at the World Cup in Tokyo. Best performance in the shot put, best performance in the javelin throw and in the last discipline, the 800 meter run again. The 21-year-old from LG Steinlach-Zollern completed the most successful heptathlon of her life. In the end she became a strong fifth, even though she was the youngest all -rounder in the competition.

“I don’t know what to say, I am overjoyed with the competition, I think today couldn’t have run better today and I would not have expected to go home with a fifth place here,” said Sprengel after her success.

At the Athletics World Cup in Tokyo, heptathlon Sandrina Sprengel showed one best after the other.

Win-win For police and athletes

Sandrina Sprengels eighth discipline is her studies with the police. The all -rounder not only wants to rely on her sport, but also thinks of her professional future. At the police academy in Villingen-Schwenningen, she completed a dual degree in the upscale service. Thanks to the top sports funding from the Baden-Württemberg state police, she can optimally bring her studies and training together. “Since I was small, I’ve always dreamed of going to the police,” recalls the Balinger native of Baling in an interview with SWR Sport. “The variety with everyday life, the connection with sport, it is not a boring job. You risk something, but it is just fun to work in such a team.”

Her supervisor Jürgen August coordinates the lessons and exams with the competitive athlete. So she can take part in training camps and large championships such as the World Cup in Tokyo without missing anything. “We only win because the athletes who come to us also want to learn this police profession. This is a win-win situation for the sport and the Baden-Württemberg police,” says August.

Mental stress and performance tests

At the police academy, the Stuttgart native is trained in theory and practice. Physical skills also play a major role. With regular power tests, the police check the fitness of their students. The question remains what is harder: police training or heptathlon? “I would say that sport is particularly mentally stressful. Especially with regard to competitions, if I know I have to deliver, I have to show what I have trained in the past few weeks,” says the 21-year-old.

At the World Cup in Tokyo, Sandrina Sprengel proved that the balancing act between work and sport works for them. With her fifth place, she not only makes herself, but certainly also her employers very proud of the police.
