A 25-year-old man from Drunen was sentenced by the court in Den Bosch to a 3-year prison sentence and TBS. In August last year, the man stuck five times on the neck and back of a 59-year-old woman at a campsite in Schaijk.
The man from Drunen was a guest of Camping De Maashorst in Schaijk last August. He went to the reception to get a story about a disagreement. There he met the female manager of the campsite.
For death
After a short conversation in which the camping guest did not get the desired answer, he grabbed a knife and put in five times on the neck and back of the victim. At some point the knife broke off and the suspect left. The woman survived, but the perpetrator left her for death.
According to the court, the victim is signed for life. She has several scars, half of her face is paralyzed, she has no feeling in one ear anymore and cannot completely raise her right arm. In addition, she still feels anxious, she no longer dares to address people and does not dare to be alone. She can no longer do her work at the campsite.
No murder
The court does not assume that the suspect traded with premeditation. There is no evidence that the man intended to do something about the campsite manager in advance. That is why the man was not convicted for attempted murder, but for attempted manslaughter.
After psychological examination, various disorders have been diagnosed in the man, which has been declared reduced accountable. As a result, the punishment is lower than in similar cases, but he does get TBS imposed.
He must also pay the victim compensation.
