Sun, rain or a strong wind. It’s all outdoors. “It can also add a touch of magic. Crowing seagulls in a music performance or dark clouds on the horizon during a theater piece. It will be more exciting for the visitors than when they look inside from a lazy chair.”

During the presentation of the festival to the municipality there was still a point of criticism from the jury: there was still a main act. In other words, an artist that will immediately come to many people. Consider, for example, the performance of the popular Zandvoort singer Yves Berendse recently during the racing festival in the village.

“There is no such main act. Our idea is that visitors have to blow over the area and get to know Zandvoort. A main act in the center with fences around the site does not fit in that picture,” explains Goedvolk.

De Zandvoort Oerol?

The concept is somewhat reminiscent of the Oerol festival on Terschelling. “I understand that comparison, but there is a big difference. Our performances are all based on local stories and that is not the case with Oerol. But of course we can learn from each other.”
