At the Athletics World Cup in Tokyo, the prelets for the seasons took place on Saturday. This ended a bitter end for a runner.
The first lead of the 4×100 meter seasons at the World Athletics World Cup had just started when the Italians had a real drama. Before the first clamping rod handover, start runner Vittoria Fontana drove into her thigh.
The 25-year-old handed over to Gloria Hooper with difficulty, but then no longer moved from the spot and moved the face in front of pain. Her teammates ended the run as a seventh place with a lot of deficit.
Vittoria Fontana, however, was credited by supervisors in a wheelchair. She held her hands in front of her face. Next to her was a teammate and a Dutch competitor.
When the supervisors put a white cloth over her legs, the Italian leaned forward and kept crying in pain. The Jamaican Tina Clayton, who qualified for the final with her season, also looked horrified at Fontana.
