At Ballon d’Or, Germany only had an iron in the fire for men and women. The placements have already been determined. Both miss the top ten.
At this year’s balloon d’Or ceremony in Paris, Florian Wirtz made it to the top 30. The national player completed the election in 29th place – the only German on the list of nominated.
The organizers had released the first results around three hours before the start of the gala in the Théâtre du Châtelet. One thing is already certain: the best Bundesliga professional is Harry Kane. The FC Bayern striker was elected in 13th place.
Other Bundesliga players also found themselves in the ranking: Michael Olise from FC Bayern ended up in 30th place, Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy reached 21st place.
Klara Bühl was the only German represented by women. The offensive player of FC Bayern took 19th place.
The favorites among men include the Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé and the Spaniard Lamine Yamal. Dembélé had won the French championship and the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain. He also stood with his club in the final of the club World Cup. Yamal celebrated the Spanish double with Barça.
Wirtz was considered an outsider in advance. In the 2024/25 season, the then Leverkusener scored 16 goals across competitions and prepared 15 more goals. In the end he became runner -up with Bayer, then switched to Liverpool FC.
The balloon d’Or has been awarded by the magazine “France Football” since 1956. The record winner is Lionel Messi with eight awards. FIFA has also awarded the title “World Footballer of the Year” since 1991. Between 2010 and 2015, the balloon d’Or was awarded in cooperation.
