Kathrin Hendrich received a dismissal in the quarter-finals of the European Football Championship. Afterwards she received desert news.
After the controversial dismissal in the European Championship quarter-finals against France, national player Kathrin Hendrich looks back on difficult weeks. In an interview with the “Bild am Sonntag”, the defense lawyer reports violent reactions on the net: “The most blatant was that someone wrote to me that I should kill myself. I would advise everyone to no longer look at the messages because it hits you subconsciously.”
In July, Hendrich flown from the square with red in the game against France. The video evidence had shown how she pulled opponent Griedge Mbock Bathy on the braid – an assault that ended the game prematurely. Germany won 6: 5 in the penalty shootout, but Hendrich was missing in the subsequent semi -finals against Spain.
After the incident, she received many insulting messages. “I wrote strangers to my strangers on Instagram,” says Hendrich. The accusation was particularly absurd for her that she was racist – “of course not true”.
At some distance, she can now take the pictures of the campaign with humor, says the 32-year-old. Immediately after the game, however, she had difficulty processing what was experienced.
In the meantime, she plays for the Chicago Red Stars in the USA and feels in good hands there. “We have an Oktoberfest in Chicago this weekend. The teammates have already got dirndls,” she reports.
