Cars with Herman Brood, the iconoclasm and a real Picasso of flowers. The Valkenswaard flower parade attracted a lot of attention on Sunday. With the theme ‘From the art’, neighborhoods brought all kinds of colorful creations that could be seen in the streets in the center of Valkenswaard. Neighborhood Crescendo finally ran away with the Grand Prix.

Julian van Gompel appeared dressed as Herman Brood. “I am quite a fan of his music,” he says. According to him, bread is ‘from the art’ in two areas: “In his music, but also in his artworks. I think that’s nice to illuminate.”

There are more than 260,000 flowers on his car. Blue was a challenge: “We had to dry flowers, shrink and therefore we could spray them blue.”

Patrick Duisters worked on the car of the iconoclasm (during the iconoclasm in 1566, saints and other Catholic religious objects were destroyed by Protestants, ed.). The creation is a literal imagination with a nod to Sinterklaas. His hands are full of pin pricks. “I stopped at half past five this morning,” he says. “The last flower went on the car at half past eight.” It is his first participation. “It’s just enjoyment.”

Spectators are enthusiastic. Eveline Langemeijer from Zoetermeer finds the iconoclasm the most beautiful car so far. “We have only seen five now, so we don’t know the rest yet. But I thought it was very beautiful.”

“Remains amazing what comes by and what kind of gems you see.”

Together with her sister Nicole Vermeulen from Berlicum, she visits several corsos. Nicole: “I always find this very chill. And very nice that it is free, because Zundert has become quite expensive and busy. Here is still a bit of Brabant geniality.”

The Eindhoven Franca Bosveld is also impressed. The iconoclasm stands out for her. “And that with spiders, it was also very beautiful.” She enjoys the atmosphere: “They have done their best. It is so pleasant and the free access is also fun.”

Bjorn Kruijssen thinks it is a great event. “I’ve been coming for a long time and it always remains amazing what comes by and what gems you always see.” His friend Sjors van Asten is there for the first time. “It’s just fun. You also see results coming and that it is the best thing there is.”

The colors appeal to Robert Melskens the most. “There are also that I find less, but that is always,” he says. His favorite? “I haven’t seen them all yet, so I’ll keep that to me.”

In the end, a nice face of the Crescendo hamlet takes the main prize. A composition that always invents itself, writes the neighborhood: “The art looks back. Talks to you. Through cubist glasses you experience chaos and order in balance. Such as Picasso, – the Spanish master who lost his heart in France – who caught color, emotion and movement in surfaces, lines and unexpected perspectives.”
