The men of the Kozijnendokter carpaten for the d66 party office windows on Lange Houtstraat. A sticker of a Dutch flag is stuck on the door, there is junk on the sidewalk, and a burnt -out blue garbage container is at the door. Riemschoppers tried to enter it at the party office in the afternoon. There is a lot of press and police.
Rob Jetten addresses the press on the sidewalk. He says there is a lot of damage inside, but luckily no one was injured. “This fits in a wider trend,” he says. The violence comes from extreme demonstrators, but is fueled by the extreme language in politics. “From, among others, Geert Wilders.”
“We have to go back to a normal debate,” says Jetten. “This is a wake-up call, we can’t let the rig win.”
While Jetten spoke, De Lange Houtstraat filled with a huge row of police cars. They have removed dozens of people from the terraces on the square. Probably it is about rioters who were previously present at the demonstration and were now drinking beer. A number of people were arrested after they scolded the police.
