The relocation of football club ONR and Stichting G-Voetbal Noordenveld in Roden is entering a new phase. Together with VV Roden, Groningen Athletics (Roden department) and IJsclub Roden, the municipality of Noordenveld has started with an exploration on the Norgerweg to spatial and financial feasibility.
VV ONR and the foundation are now still located on the Hullenweg, a location that is in the picture for housing. In earlier conversations, the accommodation of VV Nieuw-Roden was also mentioned as an option, but the preference of both ONR and Stichting G-Voetbal Noordenveld is located at the Norgerweg in Roden. Earlier the club said: “We are Oranje Nassau Roden, not Oranje Nassau Nieuw-Roden.”
“We are now seriously looking at the Norgerweg, where the exploration is now starting,” says Alfred Been, communication adviser at the municipality of Noordenveld. “VV Nieuw-Roden is, for now, off the track, but that is really the exploration that has now started in Roden.”
An external consultancy will investigate in the coming period whether the relocation is feasible. This inventory can take up to six months to a year, but that all depends on the conversations. According to the municipality, the aim is that the procedures for housing in Roden-Zuid are round in 2030. “We don’t hope it will take until 2033.”
Onr remains a loose club, so there is no merger. “It is looked at that we can just stay two clubs.” The members will also be included in the plans. “For example, the foundation must again have its own place and the artificial grass field, which they have financed themselves, must also be taken into account.”
The clubs stay at the current location on Hullenweg until then. “It will also have to be maintained here. We will also continue to talk about that with the municipality.”
At the moment the club is happy that there are constructive conversations. “It’s a breakthrough, but it’s all very thin and we have to wait and see what comes out.”
