The German boxing professional ABASS Baraou has become the world champion in the half middle weight of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
In August, the 30-year-old had already secured the interim title. Because the reigning Champion Terence Crawford changed weight class, the professional rose to the world champion. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Wasserman Boxing boxing stable, citing a letter from the WBA.
“I was very happy and upgraded to the full world champion about the interim world championship and the next step. The joy is of course great, but no special celebration is planned. I will celebrate this after the next title defense,” said Baraou at the request of the “German Press Agency”.
Baraou defeated unbeaten Cubans
Baraou, who commutes between Oberhausen and Berlin, had won the interim title last month in Orlando in the American Orland. After twelve laps and a unanimous point decision by the referees, he prevailed against the Yoenis Tellez, unbeaten in front of it.
The interim title is a temporary solution if a boxer cannot temporarily defend the actual World Cup belt for various reasons.
