Paul McCartney, the band’s bassist and second frontman, tells in an interview with a transcribed book how the rest of the band blocked the release of his first solo album.
According to McCartney, the album had already been agreed upon. However, the rest of the band held a meeting with each other where they decided to release the Beatles album instead of a solo album Let it be.
I felt like they were just trying to push me aside, and that’s why it happened. I had agreed on my own publication day first and wondered what right they had to release the album just when my album had to appear. I had had time to first, McCartney would pay in the book.
To the surprise of McCartney, the rest of the band had explained the release of the solo album that disturbed the disturbing Let It Be album. McCartney’s decision by the rest of the band came to tell the band’s drummer Ringo Starr.
He had been a pawn. He probably wouldn’t have wanted to do anything himself, but I guess the others made him a scapegoat. He really didn’t understand what he had to tell me.
McCartney says he was angry with Starr.
I’m not a donor type, so we screamed at each other and finally threw him out. I had never told anyone to leave my home. It’s my worst memory of Ringo, and I’m sorry for him because the situation really annoyed him.
Eventually, McCartney’s first solo album was released in April 1970, while Let it be in May.
