Electric cars are often considered expensive – or as a compromise with range and equipment. But is that really true? The ADAC tested around 90 electric cars in different classes and examined them with regard to price and performance.

This is how it was tested: ADAC takes a closer look

The ADAC has examined around 90 electric cars from different vehicle classes for the current rating. The basis was the club’s comprehensive car test, in which, in addition to driving characteristics, comfort and security, environmental aspects and running costs are also taken into account. It was not only the overall rating in the ADAC test, but above all the price-performance ratio. This also gives cheaper models with solid equipment and good efficiency a fair chance in the ranking.

The test winners by vehicle classes

The ADAC has divided the tested electric cars into five vehicle classes – from small cars to upper class. In each category, the model was awarded the best ratio of price and performance. The Fiat500E was able to prevail in the small cars. The model impresses with its compact design, solid processing and high everyday suitability in city traffic. With a range of up to 300 kilometers, the 500e is particularly suitable for short distances – it starts the efficiency in city traffic at 37,490 euros and the agile driving behavior was highlighted in the test.

The Renault R5 E-Tech is in front in the small car class. The newly introduced model combines retrodesign with modern technology and offers a practical range of up to 345 kilometers and starts at 32,900 euros. In addition to the everyday charging capacity, the R5 scores with a well thought -out interior concept, high efficiency and an attractive starting price. For buyers who have a compact yet versatile Electric car Search, the R5 represents one of the most interesting new releases of the year.

The lower middle class is from Skoda Elroq 85 listed. The SUV combines modern drive technology with a spacious space. With up to 475 kilometers of range, the ElroQ is also suitable for longer journeys. In terms of price, the Skoda is 43,900 euros. The interior offers plenty of space for families, the charging power is at the level of the upscale middle class and the safety equipment also fulfills current standards.

In the middle class, the ŠKODA ENYAQ 85X L&K (from 10/23) prevailed. The revised version offers a stronger rear engine with 210 kW and accelerates noticeably brisk without worsening efficiency. With a WLTP range of 300 to 450 kilometers, high driving comfort through adaptive dampers (DCC) and spacious space, the ENYAQ is ideal for everyday life and long-haul. He only shows weaknesses in the braking feeling and in the price, which is now over 60,000 euros.

In the upper middle class, the VW ID.7 Pro (from 10/23) prevailed. The model convinces with a strong drive (210 kW), high level of comfort and large space. Adaptive damping ensures a pleasant driving experience, the infotainment system has been significantly improved. With the 77 kWh battery, up to 500 kilometers of WLTP range are possible in everyday life. The entry-level price is around 54,000 euros-there is a well-thought-out, high-quality electric car that performs with a “very good” in the ADAC test.

The upper class is listed by the Porsche Taycan Performance Battery Plus (from 03/24). The facelift brings again a refined chassis, excellent suspension comfort and precise steering. The revised battery holds 105 kWh net and enables WLTP range of up to 680 kilometers (combined). The charging capacity is particularly outstanding: an average of 275 kW from 10 to 80 percent – a previously unmatched value in the ADAC test. Despite high consumption, the Taycan remains suitable for long -distance. With prices well over 100,000 euros, however, it remains a luxury product.

Quality does not have to be expensive

The ADAC evaluation shows: Electromobility is no longer just a question of the budget. Vehicles below the 30,000-euro brand also offer practical ranges, solid technology and good comfort-such as the Renault R5 or the Fiat 500E. At the same time, higher -priced models such as the ŠKODA ENYAQ or the VW ID.7 provide a convincing overall package of efficiency, equipment and long -distance suitability. The ADAC finds that inexpensive electric cars are no longer an exception – a signal to consumers like manufacturers alike.
