Julian Weber had plans a lot for the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. In the end, the javelin throw star missed another medal.

It is like evaporating for Julian Weber: The German javelin throw star missed the medals again at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo and became fifth. The victory surprisingly secured Keshorn Walcott ahead of Anderson Peters and Curtis Thompson. Particularly bitter for the 31-year-old Weber, since he was the best world year to Japan and already set up his personal best of 91.51 meters this year.

In Tokyo he did not get over 86.11 meters. Weber finished fourth at the World Cup in Budapest two years ago. Just like at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In Paris, he finished sixth in the games last year.

Weber struggled at the beginning of the competition. The first attempt went 83.63 meters, the second was an improvement at 86.11 meters, but not the claim of the German service provider. So Weber was only fifth. The third attempt was invalid, the fourth marked 80.66 meters. In the fifth attempt, Weber did not get over 81.57 meters.

His trainer told the javelin thrower across the gang before the last throw that he had to put more strength. “He doesn’t really come in down there, into his three -hythm. Fifth place is nice, but not what we wanted here,” said his coach on ZDF. However, it didn’t help. The last throw also landed after 84.67 meters.

Other favorites, like Weber, remained under their level: Neraj Copra from India, Olympic champion of Tokyo 2021 and Olympic second of Paris, also missed precious metal. He ended the competition as a eighth.
