Wolf-Elf conceded late goals
The German U19 national team gave up the first win in the second game of the crucial European Championship qualifying round by conceding two late goals. Despite the 2-2 (1-0) win against Belgium’s juniors on Saturday, the selection of former Bundesliga coach Hannes Wolf still has a chance of participating in their first European Championship since 2017. On Tuesday, hosts Finland will be the opponents of the young German footballers in the final group game the elite round.
In the game against Belgium in Vantaa, Finland, Mainz offensive player Ben Bobzien (18) gave Germany an early lead (6th minute) and made it 2-0 (54th). In the final phase, the German Football Association announced the victory two goals but still out of hand. 18-year-old Genk junior Luca Oyen (85′) and Bruges’ 18-year-old Lynnt Audoor (89′) scored for Belgium, which has four points from two games. After beating Italy 2-2, Germany only has two points in their account.
Only the group winner buys the ticket for the European Championship finals from 18 June to 1 July in Slovakia with eight teams. Germany last qualified for an U19 European Championship in 2017, after which the German teams missed out on the finals in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 and 2021 tournaments had been canceled due to the corona pandemic. The last title for the German U19 was in 2014.
