The start of the Belgians was downright impressive, they won the first two sets against defending champion. Italy then returned to the match and brought the score to 2-2, but in the decisive set Belgium was cool. At 13-14, Pieter Coolman took everything out of the closet to keep the ball off the ground and that pays off, Ferre Reggers finished it and so the stunt was complete.
It is the first Belgian victory against Italy in an official match since Eurobolley 2017 (3–0 in the quarterfinals). Because of this victory, Belgium is also sure of the next round. On Thursday, the Dragons can still take the group win if they win from the weak brother Algeria.
National coach Emanuele Zanini was very satisfied afterwards. “The key was in our preparation. We were tactically very good. We played fantastic with a good focus, even in the two sets that we lost. Tonight we can enjoy briefly, but tomorrow morning we will continue to prepare Algeria as well as possible.”
