“Chabos” on ZDFneo: Nuller Year-Nostalgia with a critical look
Speaking of men who harm themselves and others plus zero-nostalgia: I have looked at the “Chabos” series from ZDFNEO.
Protagonist Peppi (Johannes Kienast) is 36 and finds out that he is not invited to the class reunion. He wants to know why and deal with old classmates and events (around 2006).
Then it’s about illegal video downloads, sexual abuse, generally misogy, soccer betting, parents, homophobia, racism, the (unfortunately) normal life. In the zero like today. You switch between storylines from then and in the present time.
The series is quite good, somehow coming-of-age, but with the twist that we look at it again 20 years later. Of course also with a critical look, because of all sexism and such. So it is also possible for the so-called trash TV, who had his peak at the time, to the collar in which it was always against arms, women and thickness.
However, I would not have needed another story about a boys clique so urgently. I think we have seen the view often enough and how much they suffer from their deeds themselves, for example, I understood sufficiently. The women and girls in “Chabos” are strong and have their own things going, but they are still primarily staffage so that we can understand the protagonist better so that they can get on and they usually let him get away too easily. The fact that the Bechdel test and your own male bundling of the creators of the series are commented on in a scene only shows the problem of what we currently have with the antisexism of many men: you know about the problems, but still do it-only with wink, or with abdominal pain.
But be careful: a possible second season was teased, in which the gaze may be turned over again and the protagonist’s sister told. Hopefully something becomes of it.
From trash TV to MTV: How the nullers shaped us
Above all, this series showed me again that the nullers are really not time to see for you. You have screwed us up properly.

This documentary, even if it is very interesting and full of great pictures, left me behind with a smooth feeling. Men really have to become better in friendships.
Incidentally, Syd Barrett allegedly said about the song that the band wrote about him years after he left: “Sounds a bit old.” Well.
