One is a catering entrepreneur in Meppel and Groot Ajax fan. The other was the chairman of the Nijeveen Handelsvereniging for years and is the creator and initiator of the Dobberpop festival in Nijeveen. The agreement between the two is that they are both Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau, and that they both attend the throne speech live during Prinsjesdag tomorrow.

Sijtze Faber from Nijeveen and Jaap de Boer from Meppel are the lucky ones this year who can go to Prinsjesdag on behalf of Drenthe. Every year two ordinary residents from the province are chosen to attend this traditional Dutch tradition in The Hague.

“I think it’s a great honor,” Faber responds. “It’s a gift,” De Boer says. Suddenly they both received a phone call from the mayor a while ago. Whether they have something to do with Prinsjesdag, and whether they want to go there. “Fantastic,” says De Boer. “It is very special that you are the only two of the half million inhabitants of Drenthe to be chosen,” adds Faber.
