In the book: Nachtvlinder, Parisian confessions of a Groningen showgirl, Noortje Bruins describes her experiences as a young dancer in the famous Parisian nightclub Crazy Horse, between 1989 and 1994.
The autobiographical novel is about her personal experiences during that period. What started as a dream soon became a confrontation with the harsh reality: a handic employer, rivalry behind the scenes and a toxic relationship with a jealous lover. Yet she fought back on her own conditions.
Bruins grew up in Paterswolde and now lives in Gasteren. Yet her book is called Groningen showgirl. “That sounded better, thought the publishing house,” she says in the Radio Drenthe program Cassata. “But I am certainly proud of where I come from: Drenthe.”
Dancing has been her great passion from an early age. “I wanted to become a dance teacher, but I first wanted to gain experience as an executive dancer.” When she saw a performance by the Crazy Horse in Paris on television, she knew for sure: “I want to go there. I will do that.”
The shows calls Bruins “artistic” and “taboosoos”, with a special role for light and illusion.
