First, Nele Weßel had to complain about a competitor. Then there was another turn – and the German is in the final.

Nele Weßel had just complained about a competitor – suddenly there was reason to be happy. The 1,500-meter runner is in the final of the World Athletics Championships after the judge had made a late decision.

In the lead, Weßel got out of step. At first the Italian Marta Zenoni brought the Germans into stumbling through a small elbow shock. “It’s Marta again,” said the Berlin native on ZDF. Zenoni is “very robust” – that was striking, she added. Shortly afterwards, Weßel also received a shock from the British Revée Walcott-Nolan.

The 25-year-old had led the race up to the two incidents. After that, however, she fell back to the end of the field. Due to the disqualification of Zenoni, their placement ultimately became meaningless – and the final entry for late reward.
