Wilfred Genee gets a big slap on his fingers because he read a private email from RTL Tonight boss Carlo van Lienden in his viewing rate hit today inside. “It’s incredibly underhanded.”
TV maker Carlo van Lienden had a very big mouth over VI in his time at Talpa today, the precursor of the current today inside. A current program needs to be formatted very much and cannot spontaneously as Wilfred Genee wants it, he explained in a long email to the Talpa summit. In the end, the VI-trio did not listen to it.
Disrespectful
Carlo has now released its urge to format on RTL Tonight, where you have no natural interaction at the desk at all. The result: a flop. And now Wilfred takes revenge: he read that long mail from Carlo in today inside, and also the passage in which he calls Angela de Jong an ‘ad-witch’ with ‘spiritual disability’.
Format assistant Kirsten Jan van Nieuwenhuijzen finds that disrespectful. “Of course, Carlo van Lienden has absolutely proven herself at Boulevard. That is still an incredibly good scoring program. Now he makes such a mistake with RTL Tonight and that can happen, because let’s be honest: it’s also good that they try something at RTL.”
Underhanded
To be judged on TV so much, says Kirsten Jan Takeloos, he says in the podcast Content Wars. “What I really can’t find-and that shows again how incredibly underhanded VI can be occasionally-is that you are going to read an e-mail from four, five years ago, which is a kind of private e-mail that Carlo had sent to Marco Louwerens.”
“He ends up at Wilfred Genee and he will read that years later to throw that Carlo in front of the bus. In such cases I think: nothing is safe with those men of VI.”
For the bus
You just don’t do this, says Kirsten Jan, who was partly at the cradle of Big Brother. “I know that there are more stories known for they throw people in front of the bus who do not expect it at all, but in this case I think: you should not read private e-mails that are sent.”
Does he know Carlo personally? “I didn’t speak Carlo. I don’t know him at all, but I think you don’t do that from some things.”
Apologize
Podcast guest Tina Nijkamp, a good acquaintance of today Inside, takes it up for Wilfred. “He also apologized for it.”
Kirsten Jan: “Of course he does it first and afterwards it is always very easy. I think this is a bit of a Yesilgözje, from: we call it first and if it really is no longer possible, I apologize.”
Tina: “I found this striking, because he did not do this with anything before. He also said: when I was back in the car, I thought: I shouldn’t have done that. Well about the format, I think that is also possible, but not about what he would have said about Angela de Jong. He did apologize for that.”
