When the final of the European Basketball Championship between Germany and Turkey is kicked off in the Latvian capital Riga on Sunday evening, Frank-Walter Steinmeier will also sit in the stands (from 8 p.m. in the T-Online Live ticker). This was announced by the Federal Presidential Office.
In addition to Steinmeier, Christiane Schenderlein (CDU), Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering, will also follow the final live. Government circles said “that the entire federal government of the German team is keeping their fingers crossed for Sunday”.
The German national team has been back in an EM final again since the triumph in 1993. Against Turkey, it is now about the second title gain in the history of the association. The focus is again on captain Dennis Schröder, who again leads the team to a medal after the World Cup gold of 2023.
