Sure, Türkgücü, like many clubs, suffered losses due to a lack of viewer income as a result of the Corona measures. But these sums are not so important. Rather, it has to be said: Management as was done in Munich – that’s not possible… It was simply spent significantly more than was manageable.
But even for such a situation, the association must have a parachute – a plan B. What about the ominous deposit fund, one wonders in Saarbrücken. A fund that was apparently set up to remain able to act in such situations. And also why draconian point penalties were imposed.
If it hadn’t been an unbelievable eleven points deduction, but initially only three or four – in Munich you would have seen a sporting perspective. But the lights went out not only on the accounts, but also in the cabin.
Mental challenge for Saarbrücken’s team
This leaves the most insipid aftertaste. Saarbrücken loses a whopping six points, has to give up the relegation place through no fault of its own and slips to fourth place. Or, as coach Uwe Koschinat puts it: “The good performances of my players are trampled on.“And he’s right.
Of course, it is also questionable how this punch in the pit of the stomach will affect mentally. Do the players still believe in the chance of promotion?
It will be seen, first, Wednesday, in the Saarland Cup at regional league team Homburg – but above all in the next league game at 1860 Munich. The “lions” are the big winners of the Türkgücü retreat. Because the former Bundesliga club only has to give up one point and is now back at the top. In Saarbrücken they are already talking about a final for the last chance.
A great injustice
“Of course it is extremely unfortunate that we are the most affected in the fight for promotion“, says Saarbrücken coach Uwe Koschinat. And he’s right!
The fact is: Saarbrücken was extremely successful. Gets two wins and a full six points against Türkgücü – but will be punished at most – and through no fault of his own!
So what is happening to FCS these days is a great injustice. From a Saarbrücken perspective, there are two culprits: Türkgücü and the DFB!
