Eintracht Frankfurt women emerge from the first duel with Real Madrid with a narrow defeat. But also with many good approaches and great hope for the second leg.

Eintracht Frankfurt women lost the first leg in the third round of the Champions League qualification against Real Madrid on Thursday evening. Now all hopes are resting on the reference.

It wasn’t really the premier class. Rather, the playoffs are about qualifying for the Champions League. The name Real Madrid alone on the scoreboard was sufficient for great international feelings on the Brentanobad. The Spanish runner-up cannot yet refer to a title collection like the club’s men’s department, but right from the start, with liquid combinations and fast passports, showed that the SGE would have to stretch out to clear this chunk out of the way.

Early leadership for real

The team of coach Niko Arnautis worked well into the game, but the first goal marked real. The Agile Linda Caicedo nailed the ball to the crossbar from a distance. Flippa Angeldahl also used the rebound from the second row to the lead (13th minute). Signe Bruun kept an overview after a corner and increased to 2-0 for the Spaniards (35th).

A bitter setback for the Hessians, who showed a good reaction. Shortly before the break (45th), Nicole Anyomi rewarded the SGE’s offensive efforts with a massive header to the flank of Nina Lührßen. Madrid’s Sandie Toletti steered the ball even more to his own post in a rescue operation before the break – a hair of equalization.

Little chance of scoring after the break

After the change, the Frankfurt women tied to their best phase to date and were now the better team. However, their actions had too rarely the clarity as with the distance shots by Lisanne Gräwes (63.) or Erëleta Memeti (77.). Only in the final phase did Frankfurt increase the number of strokes and now came to some chances, but defined defending guests always had the last word. Bruun, on the other hand, had the opportunity to increase for Real in her post hit (88.).

So it remained for the SBU with a 1: 2 defeat and a performance that leaves at least all possibilities for the second leg. On September 18 (8 p.m.), the Spanish capital will be about who will really play Champions League in the coming season.
