Over twelve years after his farewell as a professional footballer from FC Barcelona in the direction of Bayern Munich, Thiago Alcántara has returned to the Catalans in a new role. The former midfielder will act as an assistant coach alongside chief coach Hansi Flick. The focus at Thiago’s work will be on the tactics and training preparation, and the ex-professional should “bring in his experience and play vision in order to enrich the team’s daily work,” Barcelona communicated in a club announcement.
The 34-year-old experienced his first working day this Thursday. The 46-time Spanish international ended his career in July 2024. He played most of the games in his career for FC Bayern (235), followed by Barça (100) and Liverpool (98). Thiago won the German championship seven times with the Munich team and the Cup four times and the Champions League in 2020. Flick was his trainer in 26 Bayern games.
