100 liters of Sahtia is Finland’s candidate for the Oscar for the International Film.

The Finnish Filmamari Association announces that the film 100 liters of saffron has been selected as Finland’s candidate for the Oscar Award for the International Film.

– The unusual arrangement has created a tragicomedy that affects and memorable audiences, the natural stage of which is a Finnish -Finnish, but at the same time a universal rural milieu, the Finnish Filmamari ry justifies the choice.

100 liters of Sahtia is directed and written by Teemu Niki. Elina Knihtilä and Pirjo Lonka are starring in the film. Other roles include Riia Kataja and Ville Tiihonen.

The Finnish premiere of the film was November 28, 2025 and was spread by Nelonen Media and Finnkino theater distribution to cinemas.

Final Oscar nominations will be published on January 22nd. The Oscar Awards will be awarded next year on March 15th.

The Finnish Film Professional jury, led by the Finnish Film Chamber, is responsible for the choice of the Oscar nominee.

Members of the selection jury were Film Director Marjaana Rantama, costume designer Riitta Röpelinen, Production Assistant Iita Kymiactor Katri-Maria Peltolahead of the international department Jaana Puskalaphotographer Päivi Kettunen, screenwriter- director Jenni Toivoniemi, cutting director Pauliina Punkki, composer Pessi Levanto and producer Nina Laurio.

The secretary of the jury was Susanna Shepherd from the Film Chamber and was chaired by writer and film critic Kalle Kinnunen.
