The English Football Association (FA) has charged Chelsea FC for alleged violations of numerous regulations. This was announced by the FA on its website. Accordingly, a total of 74 charges from the term of office of the former owner Roman Abramovich. The Russian billionaire had sold the London club to a consortium around the US entrepreneur Todd Boehly in May 2022.
The alleged rule violations are said to have mainly occurred in the 2010/11 and 2015/16 seasons and, according to the FA, are related to player consultants, intermediaries and investments by third parties (Third Party Investment). The association initially did not give any further details. Chelsea FC has time to comment on the allegations by September 19.
In a statement on the club’s own website, the Chelsea managers emphasized that they had made the FA and all responsible supervisory authorities aware of potential violations of the rules before the takeover. “The club showed unprecedented transparency during this process, among other things through the comprehensive disclosure of its documents and historical data,” it said. “We will continue to work closely with the FA in order to complete this matter as soon as possible.”
