Steve Mandanda draws a line after many years in professional football. The goal was not easy for the keeper.

The long -time French national goalkeeper Steve Mandanda ends his career. The 40-year-old told the French newspaper “L’équipe”: “I had to take the time to accept it, because it’s not easy. But yes, I stop.” The 2018 world champion was last without a club after his contract had expired at Stade Rennes.

The Mandanda, born in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), played 35 international matches for France between 2008 and 2022. At the 2018 World Cup triumph in Russia, he stood between the posts in the third group game against Denmark (0-0), the goalkeeper was Hugo Lloris.

For over 14 years he guarded the goal of Olympique Marseille. There he won the French championship under coach Didier Deschamps in 2010. Other stations in his career were Le Havre, Crystal Palace and most recently Stade Rennes. Mandanda said that despite several offers, he would not continue his career.
