On March 14, Amazon Germany published a video on YouTube introducing “Ziggy”: The AI language assistant Alexa received a fifth activation word.
Alexa now responds to “Alexa”, “Computer”, “Echo”, “Amazon” or “Ziggy”
The video explains that Alexa can no longer only be addressed with the activation words “Alexa”, “Computer”, “Echo” or “Amazon”, but that the command “Ziggy” can also be set as an alternative in the settings.
Ziggy Template: “Back to the Past”
As the Heise information portal reports, the new “Ziggy” command was rolled out in the USA in 2021. This name was chosen based on the supercomputer from the sci-fi series “Back to the Past” (English: “Quantum Leap”).
This is how the activation word can be set
In the settings, Alexa users can specify which command they want to use to activate the voice assistant: Under “Devices” – “Echo and Alexa” in the Alexa app, the device for which the command is to be changed can be selected. You can then use the gear icon in the “Activation Word” menu item to decide which of your five names Alexa should respond to.
