The municipality of Midden-Drenthe also asked the ministry to ‘be present and visible.’ Now officials from the municipality themselves often have to help while they have other tasks. “We conduct discussions with concerned residents and interest groups, answer questions, support in communication, inform people about meetings of Defense and call in legal expertise,” the municipality wrote in an angry letter. “Those are tasks that are basically part of the defense. Now that we pick it up without the required capacity, it is at the expense of our own municipal tasks.”
