The British of Ferrari, speaking on British TVs, takes back compared to the words of the past few days. And the team has never discussed the hypothesis of exploiting the wake in qualifications
The result of the qualifications of the Ferrari Italy GP, with Leclerc Quarto and Hamilton Quinto (but will start from the tenth position due to the penalty of five positions on the grid to be served, imposed on him in the Netherlands), is certainly not what the red fans hoped for. To make the acceptance of this result even more difficult is the impression of many in the paddock that an opportunity to fight for pole position with Leclerc has been wasted. The obvious reference goes to the final detachment of just over two tenths that separate the Poleman Verstappen from Leclerc. A gap certainly not minimal, but perfectly manageable indeed according to the opinion of some rival technicians, potentially canceled with the wake effect between two single -seater.

The wake effect on this route can in fact apply almost three tenths. A maneuver that, it seems correct to reiterate it, all (public and media in the press room) were expected to have been implemented in Q3, based on what Hamilton expressed in front of the tide of the “red” fans during the pre-gp event in Piazza Duomo on Wednesday afternoon. On that occasion, in fact Lewis had declared that if it had been necessary and had had an adequate step, he would have helped Charles in the pole position hunting giving him the wake in the launched lap.
Hamilton’s words

They therefore made the bystanders extend the declarations that instead the Stevenage champion released to British TV immediately after the conclusion of the qualifications. If on the one hand, in fact, he declared himself satisfied with the passage of the car net of the result obtained, at the precise question he replied: “No, giving the wake to my teammate is something that I have never done in any of the teams with which I have run in the past. Potentially a choice of that type means sacrificing one of the two drivers. To make it even more penalizing there is the penalty of five positions, possible”. A clear change in front that, however, pairs with Leclerc’s declaration, according to which the hypothesis of exploiting the wake of Hamilton was never even discussed before qualifying. In short, the end of the broadcasts and the ambitions of pole for Ferrari in Monza.
