MAangiaral Love
Type: romantic-educational comedy
Director: Celine Song. With Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Emmy Wheeler, Sawyer Spielperg
How do you choose the right man? Or the right woman? It is a question of “chemistry” among people, but also of the “mathematical” balance with which those qualities can be crossing with each other: It is the work of Lucy Mason, “Matchmaker”, facilitator of meetingsfor the Adere agency, specialized in associating its customers with the perfect partner.
A work done above all of sensitivity and careful evaluation of the various elements at stake, from height to age, to income, to education. All simple or almost, until the day when it will be up to Lucy to decide who the man who really does for her is.
Dakota Johnson is a “matchmaker” in “Material Love” (© Atsushi Nishijima).
Sentimental relationships are the field of action of the director, already applauded for Past Lives: Here the somewhat melancholy romanticism of his previous film leaves the field to the comedy, always romantic but decidedly more barely, if not comical: we are from the parts of Nora Ephron, Woody Allen, even Billy Wilder, inside a “feelings market” where certainties give way to surprises and nuances.
And to some inspiration for reflection not obvious on the weight that the head and the heart – together or not – have in guiding us towards the choice who can decide on life.
For those who want to smile about heart problems.
