From the 13th to September 21st, the best athletes want to demonstrate their skills at the World Cup. So the German chances of medals stand.
Overall, the German Athletics Association (DLV) has 80 athletes on site who were nominated. But which German top performers can make it into the final at all and also have chances of precious metal? T-online gives an overview.
The German long jump-ace vouched for the world champion in 2019 and 2022 and was missing in Budapest due to injury. At the Olympic Games in Paris last year, the 31-year-old won silver and only had to give up the American Tara Davis-Woodhall.
In Tokyo – the place of her Olympic victory in 2021 – Mihambo can now hope for a medal. Her biggest competitor will be David-Woodhall again. Their seasonal and current world best performance is 7.12 meters, that of Mihambo at 7.07 meters.
The German javelin thrower still has an invoice with Tokyo: Julian Weber also went into the competition as a medal favorite at the Olympic Games four years ago, but ended up fourth. However, he even has chances of gold at this World Cup. Weber recently won the Diamond League final in Zurich with 91.51 meters, which made it the world year best this season. His strongest competitors are Brazilian Luiz Mauricio da Silva and the Olympic second of Paris, Neraj Chopra.
So far, it has been going dazzling for Niklas Kaul this season. While the 27-year-old world champion in Paris, known for his perseverance, had nothing to do with the podium in Paris, he is currently in third place on the World Athletics seasonal list-ahead of Neugebauer. In Götzis he showed a strong performance and his second best competition of the career. In this form that he finally enjoys again, Kaul can reach a medal in Japan.
