The 24-year-old Anisimova and the 23rd placed Osaka (27) made it an exciting competition in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Japanese won the first set after a tiebreak and in the second set, Anisimova triumphed after a tiebreak.
In the third set, the American ran out of a 4-1 lead. She eventually won 6-3 after two hours and 56 minutes of play. Afterwards, Anisimova called reaching the final “a dream come true”. Anisimova is coached by the Dutchman Rick Vleeshouwers
Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus issued earlier in the evening in the semi-finals with the fourth-placed American Jessica Pegula: 4-6 6-3 6-4.
Sabalenka was in the first set on a 4-2 lead, but the American then won four games in a row. In the second and third set, Sabalenka was able to keep her opponent behind him. After more than two hours of play, the Belarussian decided the game on her third match point. “I had to work very hard to win,” she said after the game.
Sabalenka is the title defender in New York. She won the final last year by beating Pegula in two sets. That was her third Grandslam title after two previous victories from the Australian Open.
