Germany embarrasses itself in Slovakia – also because with the central defense, the showpiece of national coach Julian Nagelsmann was really weak. The DFB team in individual criticism.
Oliver Baumann (goal): In the absence of Marc-André Ter Stegen, the Hoffenheimer was preferred again and his first campaign in the 21st minute against Sauer was really good. After that, Slovakia had many dangerous situations, but only two balls came to Baumann’s gate – and the keeper was completely powerless. But he still played really well a few times. It wasn’t because of him.
Namdi Collins (defense, up to 45th minute): His debut started promising and very aggressively, but then the Frankfurt became a security risk. Sauer did what he wanted with Collins, left him almost in every action. His captain Kimmich tried to build him up, but even afterwards the U21 Vice European champion no longer got the curve. Nagelsmann redeemed him at half -time – rightly so.
Antonio Rüdiger (defense): Was that really the DFB team’s top performer and Real Madrid in recent years? Germany’s defense chief was completely next to him, in the 27th minute he was played really dizzy and went to the ground, then Rüdiger just let Hancko run in the 0: 1. Nagelsmann doesn’t really have to worry about the central defense – but in the form. Because even with the 0: 2, Rüdiger was dancing, it didn’t really attack.
Jonathan Tah (defense): Rüdiger’s next man also got a bad day. After his colleague’s Sauerschwindel, Tah was able to save, but he also had a large part in the deficit. Then the new FC Bavaria defender Strelec invited to the unrestricted template, simply had his opponent stand out. Overall, Tah looked totally agile, undynamic and insecure.
Maximilian Mittelstädt (defense): Not so much happened over his side, but the Stuttgart was also overrun at one time or another – also because it was also very offensive. There, Mittelstädt made too little out of the possibilities, a shot in the short corner in the 24th minute was the best action. In the second round, the left foot had to switch to the right side. It was obvious that it wasn’t.
Joshua Kimmich (midfield): Slovakia seems to be his very personal fear opponent. Nine years ago, Kimmich celebrated and lost his debut against this nation because he was quite next to him. That was the case this time too. The Bavaria boss was allowed to go in the midfield center, but made completely unfamiliar mistakes there and had no control over the center of space. Contrary to his nature, he was not an emotional driver at all.
Joshua Kimmich in the game against Slovakia
Angelo Stiller (midfield, up to 59th minute): Kimmich’s Stuttgart counterpart made it a little better and also looked for the risk a little more with flat passes. But even there it wasn’t enough in view of your own claims. Stiller then dipped more and more, could hardly be seen and had to go off the pitch prematurely. So his place next to Kimmich is in danger.
Leon Goretzka (midfield): Where is Goretzka? Some may have asked this question because the professional professional of FC Bayern as a tens was so invisible. In the 13th minute, Goretzka almost had the great chance of 1-0, but he also did not act purposefully and lost the ball in the penalty area to Skriniar. After 47 minutes he prevailed in the box, but closed too imprecisely. After that there was nothing left of him again.
Florian Wirtz (midfield): The Neu-Liverpoole was the German player with the most ideas and the courage to initiate something. His class flashed in the 32nd minute when he left two opponents in the penalty area, but then did not complete enough and Dubravka could ward off his low shot. He also prepared Goretzka (48th )’s great chance. Before 0: 1, Wirtz lost the ball and got involved in discussions with Duda instead of succeeding. When Slovakia withdrew, there wasn’t much left.

Serge Gnabry (midfield, up to 66th minute): In Munich things are going really well in the center, in the first two league games the 30-year-old was directly involved in three goals. In the DFB team, Gnabry had to go to the right side and it became clear that he was not feeling so comfortable there. He had his best actions on the defensive when he could clarify one or the other time with a lot of fight. It was surprising that the two left -backs often higher than he stood.
Nick Woltemade (attack): Two header ends were the most dangerous actions, although the ball was so inaccurate that it was not really dangerous. Woltemades Spielwitz showed up when he let the ball roll through his legs for Goretzka in the 13th minute. After the 0: 2, nothing could be seen by the striker.
David Raum (defense, from 46th minute): The new captain of RB Leipzig blends seamlessly into the weak German appearance, and after 100 seconds, caused a dangerous standard situation, before which he lost the header duel. In the Slovaks, the full -back should be a security risk – but that was more the case with the German team.
Nadiem Amiri (midfield, from 59th minute): Immediately after his substitution with a (harmless) goal shot, but at least the Mainz showed more train to the opposing goal than before in silent in just under an hour. Trying after that, but also lucky.
Karim Adeyemi (midfield, from 66th minute): The Dortmund was once someone who did something with brave dribbling and direct game. But Adeyemi couldn’t change much about this appearance either.
