Is the farewell performance Microcosm – the world in a Wunderkammer Not just an excuse for Tupan to put everything in a room that he likes? “I don’t even think that is such a crazy thought. But when you go through the exhibition, you see that it is built up with different color areas, each of which is a theme. So within each color you have a defined group of objects that have a relationship with each other again.”
The Dutch translation of Wunderkammer is an art and curiosity cabinet. The exhibition is built in four areas: Naturalia, Artificia, Exotica and Scientifica. “In the exhibition you step from one wonderful world to another, each with its own crazy atmosphere,” said the Drents Museum.
Stuffed animals, edstouses, minerals and art and antiques from distant places are set up. Various well-known Dutch people, such as biologist Midas Dekkers and Tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher, have contributed.
The exhibition can be seen in the Drents Museum from Saturday and will be open to the public until 1 March. At the official opening, Tupan no longer runs as a director along his favorite collection, but as a visitor. He says goodbye to the Drents Museum this week.
