Humberto Tan responds for the first time to the flopping of RTL Tonight. The presenter is ‘very disappointed’ in the viewing figures of the program, he says on Radio 538. “But a crisis? No.”
The score of 897 thousand viewers who put RTL Tonight on Sunday evening with the very first episode was extremely hopeful. A day later, however, more than half of the people dropped out. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 404 thousand, 369 thousand and 409 thousand people watched respectively. Competitor Pauw & De Wit is around 800 thousand.
Humberto responds
What does Humberto think? “Tonight is discussed a lot. Of course you want to be discussed in a different way. That is really not fun, certainly not if it is disappointing. That was absolutely. Still,” he says on Radio 538.
“But at the same time we are also planning and building. Today there is a rise again, but that says nothing. Yes, we just have to work hard for it. That’s it.”
Crisis meeting
Humberto has often had to do with things like this. “It’s not my first time, isn’t it, in this way. I can remember, when we ever started with late night, that after three days we had a kind of crisis meeting, because the viewing figures were very low when we just started.”
“We then said to each other:” If we continue to believe in it and plan and see what works, maybe we have a chance. ” That took four years.
Market share
According to Humberto, the market share in the commercial target group is fine. “The crazy thing is: the absolute figures – 409 thousand viewers – are really disappointing yesterday, but the market share is very good. That is so strange. That gives potential, we think, and we stick to that.”
Is there a crisis atmosphere with the program? “No dude.
Opportunistic
Isn’t it just better to get the regular talk show table out of the stable again? “That would be very opportunistic to say immediately after two broadcasts:” Oh, don’t work! Back! ” You have chosen something, you have faith in it and of course you keep holding that. ”
He concludes: “There is no crisis so far. We just talk to each other and we are very disappointed. Absolutely. I don’t sleep any less, but it’s not fun. It is certainly not fun, because you want it to be good. We have to keep trust and continue.”
