Björn Borg beat many big players in his tennis career. But now he reports that he is fighting a much more serious fight.
According to a media report, the Swedish tennis icon Björn Borg has cancer. In his autobiography that will soon appear, Borg revealed its prostate cancer, the Swedish newspaper “Expresses” reported on Thursday, citing a blurb published online.
The newspaper referred to a short book description on the Italian-speaking side of the online mail order giant Amazon. “Until the last challenge, the most important thing that is not over yet, against the cancer,” it said.
The autobiography of Tennis-Heroen is to be released on September 18 under the title “Heartbeats”. The Swedish editor of the book, Norstedt, initially did not comment on inquiries from the AFP news agency.
The Borg active in the 1970s and 80s is one of the most successful tennis players of all time. The 69-year-old won a total of 66 individual titles in his career, including eleven Grand Slam tournaments. From 1976 to 1980 he won the tournament in Wimbledon five times in series. In total, he was number one in the world rankings for 109 weeks.
At the beginning of 1983, the tennis professional, named “Eis” Borg at the age of 26, surprisingly ended his active career at the age of 26. In 1991 he started a comeback: Borg played his matches with an old wooden bat, but was largely unsuccessful.
