The controversial cafeteria Marco in Werkendam has been taken over, the fries tent and especially owner Marco were discredited several times. Leo Kros (54) and his wife take over the fries tent, who has been closed for three months,: “I have taken over everything except the hidden cameras.” According to him, former owner Marco (38) is very difficult.

Leo Kros has had the key to his new cafeteria since Wednesday. What is striking is that the name ‘Cafeteria Marco’ is immediately removed from the windows. “I immediately removed it. We will ensure that the cosiness and tranquility return to this place.”

What was going on?
In November 2017, the police found weapons and drugs in the building. The cafeteria was closed by the mayor for three months. And last June an employee encountered nude images of himself, guests and colleagues on the laptop of snackable owner Marco.

Those involved told Omroep Brabant that hidden cameras hung on the guest toilet and in the shower that employees used. The police searched the case and seized, among other things, a laptop. The cafeteria did not open afterwards.

Doubt
So now. The fries tent will open with the new ‘Cozy Corner 0183’ on 1 October. Leo is proud, yet he has held a lot of doubts to take over the controversial case “People are talking about a blemish. That blemish is now, but we are completely gone it. It is a shame and a shame what happened, but we are going to make it a nice running thing again.”

As residents of Werkendam, Leo and his wife would like to keep the location for the village. “We want to ensure togetherness and kindness. People have missed the matter and we only get warm reactions.”

Contact with Marco
“I took over without cameras,” Leo jokes carefully. Our son was having a drink here almost daily and we regularly came to eat something here. “I have never seen the camera, I was really shocked. Fortunately everything has now been taken up. The cameras that are still hanging there are purely for safety and insurance.”

Real estate entrepreneurs have bought both the cafeteria and the upstairs apartment, Leo is going to rent the cafeteria. The former owner, Marco. “I saw him when drawing the papers. He has a hard time with it. Now with the sale he has the feeling that it is really about that the end is story.”

Staff wants to go back
What is not going to change are the home -made fries and frikandels. “Those frikandels have been the hit of the village for fifty years.” But Leo will also take a new road, he wants to turn his business into a meeting place for the village. “In the morning we want to serve a nice cup of coffee with a liqueur, whipped cream on it and cook. Get people in for a nice sandwich and cakes.”

Almost all the staff of Cafetaria Marco wants to get started in the new store, says Leo. “We started the conversations today. This morning I had two young ladies on a visit. They were of course shocked by what happened. They looked around a bit timidly. Their confidence has to come back, I understand that.”
