The Munich Tristan da Silva is currently proving to be proving at its first European Basketball European Championship. His older brother Oscar is happy about family support on the court and captain Dennis Schröder is enthusiastic. But because Silva can do more than just basketball.

Light -footed and elegant, accurate from the three -point line – again and again it is drawn to the basket. “Like a Brazilian, he dances across the square,” said Christine da Silva about her basketball son Tristan last year. At that time, the Munich native had just moved to the NBA.

Today the 24 -year -old stands in the national team and is currently playing his first European Championship in Latvia – together with his brother Oscar (FC Bayern), which is three years older. Basketball is becoming more and more a family matter in Germany: the Wagner brothers, the Sabally sister, now the Da-Silva brothers.

Big praise from Dennis Schröder – “Right Beast”

“Now to be able to spend a summer with him and to be able to celebrate moments and success on the field is huge and fulfills my heart,” said the older da Silva, Oscar, in the ARD interview. In Latvia, the brothers stand together on the court and especially Tristan is just upset. The German-Brazilian particularly stood out in the German EM record victory against Great Britain. He was German top scorer with 25 points (10/12 FG, 5/7 threesome).

Even Dennis Schröder enclosed his teammates: “He should simply play and if he does it, he is a real beast,” said the captain after the game. In addition to the field, however, the beast Tristan is very tame: he is eloquent, chooses his words carefully, speaks five languages.

From the small Munich hall to the large NBA

Since Silva’s career started at the DJK Sportbund Munich. At 17 he switched to MTSV Schwabing. He and his brother Oscar trained in a small hall for the big goals – with success: Tristan is now NBA player, Oscar at Bayern.

Five months ago, the older da Silva confidently said in the FC Bayern basketball podcast: “I’m still better than Tristan”. But his “little” brother catches up: after Andi Obst he should have the fastest release in the national team. Even difficult threesome from the movement succeeds – and in fact it sometimes looks like a Latin American dance.

First orchestra, then basketball

He also demonstrated rhythm away from the court: because basketball was only a relaxed hobby for a long time. Tristan da Silva played trumpet in his childhood and youth and was part of two orchestras. Only after graduating from high school did he focus on sport.

Da Silva plays with the Wagner brothers at Orlando Magic

Between the basketball beginnings in his hometown of Munich and the call to the national team, he played for the college team Colorado Buffaloes for four years-until the NBA became aware of the Munich.

At the NBA draft last year, the Orlando Magic finally selected him in 18th place, where he now played together with Franz and Moritz Wagner. The Munich team had now arrived in the Great NBA: “From the small corner in Munich, where we played on the Free Square that the path really goes to the NBA draft in New York, is very, very impressive,” said his brother for Tristan.

Orlando-Magic trainer About da Silva: “Player with the highest IQ”

In Orlando, Silva was received with open arms. “Tristan is a unique player with extraordinary skills and, in my opinion, one of the players with the highest IQ in this draft.” But Tristan is best, said Captain Schröder, if he doesn’t think – and simply plays basketball.

That is the European perspective at BR24.
