The inhabitants of Foster City are fed up. The parks in the city are littered with goose poop. However, they do not want the animals to be shot and that is why the municipal administration has introduced an alternative approach.
These samples of catfish not only eat the ducks: they are a growing problem for the rivers
There is 400,000 dollars (around 343,000 euros) spent for a pilot project to expel the geese with drones, dogs and lasers.
The intention is that drones and dogs hunt the geese into the water and that lasers are used to distract the animals, writes the local medium ABC 7.
Derek Schweigart, director of Recreation Service Foster City Park and Recreation, hopes that this can reduce the goose nuisance. “But I don’t know exactly how that should work,” the director admits.
‘Stop feeding the geese’
Schweigart knows one solution that would at least work. “Stop feeding the geese. As a result, they are now coming back.”
