In the therapeutic work with directed dream, the images that emerge bring the most intimate footprint in each person’s history. They are not abstract symbols or universal archetypes, but scenes loaded with a very personal sense, which condense essential experiences and emotions. The case of S., a woman marked by a deep abandonment in childhood, illustrates it clearly.

In his dream, S. saw a flower lying on an arid land, withered and point of dying. That image was not accidental: he condensed his childhood experience, excluded from maternal care, victim of heartbreak and negligence. The flower symbolizes our most primary essence, what each of us begins to discover in the first years of life, when identity begins to take shape. In it, the feeling of having been careless and unprotected at the most vulnerable moment in its history was visible.

The work proposal was to invite her to rescue that flower. In front of the slogan of planting it in a garden of its own, S. made the decision to plant it in a green, fertile and leafy space. There, the flower grew again, recovered its vitality and deployed. The inner gesture of moving it to that new place was not simply imaginative: it was a therapeutic act that allowed S. to meet his dignity, restore care and begin to address herself in the way she had never been treated.

The power of the directed dream resides precisely on this: open a scenario where the patient can confront their wounds and, at the same time, to rehearse a symbolic repair that has an impact on their real life. The image of the withered flower, transformed into a careful and live flower in a garden, condenses a passage: of victim of abandonment to subject capable of sustaining and nourishing.

In a time when so many people carry stories of helplessness, these experiences show that the most damaged can recover their value and vitality. And they remind us that everyone, with the images of our own unconscious, we can find paths to take care and bloom.
