The German basketball coach Álex Mumbrú is once again represented by his assistant coach. There is also bad news for the German selection.
The German national basketball team plays their last preliminary round game at the European Championship in Tampere (Finland) again without head coach Álex Mumbrú. As the German Basketball Bund announced, assistant Alan Ibrahimagic will also look after the team on Wednesday (from 7.30 p.m. in the T-Online Live Tickier). The 47-year-old already took part in the mandatory press conference the day before.
Mumbrú had been hospitalized last week because of an “acute abdomen” – an emergency that usually goes hand in hand with severe abdominal pain and requires immediate treatment. At first the association had spoken of an infection.
The 46-year-old has been released from the clinic since Saturday and back in the team hotel. There he now also participates in the preparation. The aim of the Spaniard is to return to the sidelines for the final round in Riga from Saturday.
For Ibrahimagic, the duel with the Finns should be the last use as an interim coach. “It’s okay. I tried to fulfill the role from the start as long as it is necessary,” he said in the team hotel.

Nevertheless: Johannes Voigtmann fails for the further course of the tournament due to injury. The co-captain must be operated on on the knee. “This is a bitter blow for the team. Johannes has been one of the leading players for years,” said Ibrahimagic. With a victory against Finland, Germany could make the important group success for moving into the round of 16.
