A devastating fire on Hofstraat in Eindhoven leaves the neighborhood shocked. Due to a renovation, the residents stayed temporarily in a garden house behind the house. The damage is huge. “Everything is broken,” says local resident Elise.

“This is terrible. I know what the house was like when they bought it. The ivy was completely in the house then. They did so much about it,” Elise continues. According to her, the family trains dogs for autistic children.

According to an 112-correspondent, a family with three children lives in the house. The mother of the family didn’t want to say anything about the fire on Tuesday.

“The family was of course shocked,” says fire spokesman Paul van Dooren. “They said that they do an evacuation exercise every year. They also had smoke detectors hanging.” He can’t say how the residents and dogs are doing now. The fire brigade has a suspicion of the cause, but does not want to make any statements about it.

Sea

The fire report arrived around ten for three on Monday night. A lot of smoke was released during the fire. Due to a huge spark of rain and smoke, the train traffic was stopped for a moment. The house is next to the track.

Around four o’clock Monday night the fire was largely extinguished. The fire brigade dropped the house with a ribbon due to the risk of collapse.

Difficult to reach
The fire brigade was difficult to reach the house. A large part of the road was completely open due to sewerage work. “That is difficult,” the spokesperson admitted. “We had to apply more snakes than normal. We also applied water at a greater distance.” Fortunately, the aerial platform could use road plates that were there.

“I don’t think the situation had an effect on the damage. We don’t expect it to go differently if there had been no work,” emphasizes the fire brigade spokesperson. “It was a completely blazing fire when we arrived.”

Disaster
“This is a disaster,” says an 87-year-old neighbor. He and his wife also had to leave their house at night. “We drank coffee with a resident in a side street. I was more sleepy than shocked,” he says soberly.

Local residents inspect the damage in disbelief on Tuesday morning. “This is really very sad,” says Piet van Oss. Resident Kitty Bakker adds: “It’s terrible. Those people have to start all over again. There is nothing more upstairs.”

The neighbors’ house is for sale. The fire brigade could prevent the fire from spreading. Piet concludes: “They were lucky.”
