Germany’s basketball players burn the next offensive fireworks against Great Britain at the European Championship and head for group victory. With a victory in the final preliminary round game against Finland, the selection of the German Basketball Association (DBB) would finally be one place.
The DBB team won 120: 57 against the still winless British on Monday in the Finnish Tampere and in preliminary round group B has the declared goal, the group victory, further in view. At the end of the preliminary round, host Finland will take place on Wednesday evening.
The German team would only be safe and without computing games in the first time in the event of a win against the Finns, which were still unbeaten – and would then probably avoid one of the three strong teams from the crossing group with Serbia, Turkey and Latvia, the host in the KO round in Riga. The Lithuanians, who have already lost to the DBB team, still have chances of the group victory.
DBB team with the usual starting line-up against second-class British
The internationally second-class British at the European Championship are nothing more than a sparring partner, the team from the island had previously lost the 14 European Championship games with 20 points. For the DBB team, however, there was no reason to go against the British on autopilot – also because of the close constellation in the fight for first place: in a possible three -way comparison, the basket difference could also play a role.
Voigtmann fails for the rest of the European Championship
As announced, DBB coach Alan Ibrahimagic sent the usual starting five on the floor, except for the struck Jo Voigtmann. As the DBB announced after the game, the center from FC Bayern, which had left home for a short notice, will be canceled for the rest of the tournament.
Isaac Bonga took over Voigtmann’s first five – and was immediately involved: the first attempt by beyond the three -point line was immediately.
DBB team begins to conjure up in the second quarter
The DBB team only acted somewhat carelessly at the beginning, especially with rebound work, but then found the offensive rhythm. Early in the second quarter, the world champion had pulled away against the overwhelmed British to more than 20 points – and unpacked the magic tricks. During a fast break, the Germans played several passes behind their backs, but did not accommodate the ball in the basket.
That looked very much like Freimplatz, but the DBB team kept switching back to serious attack mode: Dennis Schröder sank two three in a row, the first “MVP” calls of the German fans were heard in the arena. Germany used the game to try out new attack variations. The bank players also got numerous opportunities to distinguish themselves.
Tristan da Silva top scorer – 25 points, five successful threesome
At the end of the third quarter, the brothers Tristan and Oscar da Silva provided the next highlight: Tristan put the ball under the basket nicely through his older brother, which was completed with a crashing dark. Tristan da Silva was even top scorer with 25 points, with five successful threesome in seven attempts. The man from the Orlando Magic also made the one hundred points full at the beginning of the final area.
For the fourth time in a row, 100-point brand cracked-historical
The German basketball players also cracked the 100-point market in the fourth game at this European Championship, as the second team in EM history: only Croatia had previously done this at the European Championship in 1993. “Looks like this is now our goal. So that a few more donuts come on top, for the time after the tournament”, Had Daniel Theis said before the game.
The more urgent goal remains, however, the group victory – on Wednesday it should be much more difficult, against the Finns and in a hall packed with 13,000 fans in Tampere.
