The arrival from ASML to Eindhoven is a bit closer. Chip machine manufacturer has signed an agreement with the municipality of Eindhoven. The municipality reports this. ASML wants to settle on the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) Noord in Eindhoven. The agreement contains agreements about the rent of the land. Land agreements have also been made. Construction is expected to start early next year.
An ASML spokesperson says that it is not yet definitive that ASML will expand in Eindhoven. “We are happy with this step. This creates a framework for further cooperation, but it is not yet a definitive approval or granting permits.”
Various challenges
The plans are ambitious, because there is still no solution for the nitrogen problem and the overcrowded electricity grid. ASML names this in a statement. “Various essential conditions still have to be met before we can start the construction of the campus. Think of challenges regarding infrastructure, electricity and nitrogen.”
Questions about the content of the agreements are dismissed by the spokesperson of the municipality and of ASML. “We make no further statements about the content of the agreements made in the anterior agreement.”
Purchase land
The municipality of Eindhoven also acknowledges that the arrival of ASML is not yet complete. “Of course there are still challenges and various steps still have to be taken, such as going through the spatial procedures,” you can read in a statement from the municipality.
The municipality of Eindhoven does not yet have all the land. There is still talk with other plot owners. If the negotiations run out of nothing, the owners can eventually become expropriated.
ASML wants to double
ASML wants to expand considerably in the Brainport region in the coming years. Not only in Veldhoven, but also in Eindhoven. The high -tech giant ultimately wants to double from 20,000 to 40,000 employees and had the eye on a large arable landscape at the Brainport Industries Campus.
More than seventy football fields, the expansion place of ASML must be there. The first of a total of 20,000 employees can go there in 2028. ASML wants to grow considerably on the new campus to be built with both cleanrooms As office buildings. This is apparent from a preliminary design that the city council will vote for next week.
If all the signals go green, ASML wants to start construction early next year. The municipality would like to cooperate in this. “We have faith in it and are on course.”
Project Beethoven
Earlier the region received a big bag of money. Under the name ‘Project Beethoven’ everything was done to keep large tech companies such as ASML in the Netherlands and the Brainport region. In total, this concerns 2.51 billion euros in investments. Part of it imposes the region itself. The money is used for the construction of extra houses, to train more staff and to tackle roads and public transport.
