This weekend, the Dutch Railways have brought nearly 140,000 Formula 1 fans to Zandvoort. According to the transport company, that is more than in the previous four editions of the Grand Prix and therefore a record.
An NS spokesperson told ANP news agency that the weekend went well so far. On Sunday, the day of the races, most fans were on the move. Since Friday, the Dutch Railways have been driving an exceptional timetable throughout the weekend with a train at a maximum length between Amsterdam and Zandvoort every five minutes. For example, 10,000 travelers per hour could be transported to Zandvoort and back.
In the coming hours, the Dutch Railways expect to bring large groups of travelers home. To steer this in the right direction, NS staff is still working all night. They ensure that “travelers can travel to their destination as much as possible in clean trains tomorrow again as much as possible”, you can read in a statement.
The Dutch Railways used this racing weekend at the stations three hundred extra employees, for example to point out travelers on the right road to the circuit or the right train. Stations are equipped with a route designation “In Formula 1 style.”
