The 1st FSV Mainz 05 was the better team for long distances on the 2nd matchday of the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg, but only came to a well-deserved point gain thanks to a late trading. Both teams separated 1-1 (1-0) on Sunday.
Aaron Tenth had put the Wolfsburg in the lead early (9th). Nadiem Amiri scored in the 88th minute by a penalty to compensate for long luckless Mainz. In the tenth minute of added time, Wolfsburg’s Mattias Svanberg saw the yellow-red card.
Wolfsburg narrowly missed the second victory in the second Bundesliga game. For Mainz it was the first point win this season
Mainz better, Wolfsburg meets
The determining team in the first half was Mainz 05. But VfL met, and that with the first attack. After passing Lovro Majer, Aaron tenth had too much space on the left and used it for his first Bundesliga goal. Anthony Caci falsified the tight shot unsustainable for Robin Zentner in the Mainz goal (9th).
This did not change the statics of the game. Mainz was the better team, played determined and with a pace forward. The problem with this: the 05s did not take a big chance. Dominik Kohr missed the best opportunity when he headed the ball into the arms of VfL goalkeeper Kamil Grabara after a corner (26th).
Instead, Wolfsburg still had a great chance, but Dženan Pejčinović narrowly missed the Mainz box (28th). Nevertheless, the VfL went into the cabin with a tight tour.
Mainz offensive harmless
New half, the same picture: Mainz was the better team, but hardly developed any danger. In the 70th minute, Nadiem Amiri tried it from a distance, but Maximilian Arnold falsified the ball to the corner. Until then it was the best Mainz chance of the game.
Wolfsburg hardly took offensive in the second half, but was still more dangerous than the FSV. In the 75th minute, hundredweight was challenged against a long -range shot from Mattias Svanberg, but parried safely. Three minutes later it would almost have the doorbell on the other side. Kohr headed a cross from Amiri on the right post (78th).
Penalty after VAR intervention
In the 88th minute, referee Sören Stork came into focus. Video assistant Sascha Stegemann had discovered a handball by Wolfsburg Konstantino’s coulierakis in his own penalty area. Stork’s scene looked at the monitor and decided on a penalty for the guests. Amiri took the matter and certainly converted into a deserved Mainz compensation (88th).
And Mainz almost even took the lead. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Amindo Sieb from 13 meters only hit the crossbar.
Wolfsburg’s Svanberg ended the end of the game, who saw the yellow-red card after repeated foul in the tenth minute of stoppage time.
